ESTUDIO DEL COMPORTAMIENTO DE LA MICROALGA Scenedesmus obliquus PARA LA PRECIPITACIÓN DE CROMO EN ALBAÑAL SINTÉTICO
Abstract
The objective of this work was to evaluate the application of the microalga Scenedesmus obliquus in the precipitation of Cr in synthetic chromic wastewaters. The microalga came from the collection of the National Center for Scientific Research. It was immobilized in polyurethane foam in a reactor of 150 L of capacity and working with initial metal concentrations of 20, 60 and 100 mg/L. The precipitation was the process that was favored in the metal removal. An effectiveness bigger than 95 % was achieved in chromium removal, that meant metal concentrations lower than the maximum permissible discharge standards in waters, according to the Cuban Standard NC 27:1999, for theconcentration of 20 mg/L. These results suggest the capacity of Scenedesmus obliquus of removing chromium through precipitation in galvanic effluents, under the studied conditions.
Key words: microlgae, Scenedesmus obliquus, chromium, recovery, wastewater treatment.
