Effect of Temperature and Concentration on the Viscosity of the Dilute Solutions of Lithium Tetrafluoroborate in Acetone and Acetonitrile
Abstract
Viscosities of different dilute solutions of lithium tetrafluoroborate (LiBF4) in acetone and acetonitrile from 1x10-2 to 8x10-2 mol.dm-3 were measure at the Kelvin temperatures 298,15, 303,15, 308,15, 313,15 and 318,15 using a viscometer Ubbelohde. The viscosity data were used to evaluate the ion-ion interactions and the ion-solvent interactions in terms of A and B coefficients of Jones-Dole equation, respectively. The positive values of B coefficient in both solvents indicate that LiBF4 behave as structure maker. With the viscosity data, enthalpy change of activation ΔH≠, entropy change of activation ΔS≠ and free energy change of activation ΔG≠, were evaluated as a function of salt concentration and temperature.
