Abstract

A new amine/amide type macrocycle compound was synthesized using N-hydroxysuccinimide-activated isophtalic acid and N,N’-bis(3-aminopropyl)-1,3-propanediamine as starting compounds, via High Dilution Method with a yield of 72%. Its structure was confirmed by 1HNMR, ESI-MS-MS and Elemental Analysis. Acidity/Basicity constants of the synthesized compound were determined by using the potentiometric method, resulting in four basicity constants, which correspond to the values reported for other secondary amines, and one acidity constant, presumably belonging to the hydrolysis of a molecule of water bound by hydrogen bonds to the amide groups of the macrocycle and not to the deprotonation of one of these groups.

Keywords: macrocycle, amine/amide, synthesis, basicity.
