Abstract

Insoluble fiber of sugar cane was used as substrate on solid media to evaluate the ability of two ligninolytic fungi (Cladosporium sp. and Fusarium sp.) isolated from bagasse and were compared with the fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium. Bioreactors were prepared with the substrate supplemented, inoculated with a spore suspension, maintained at a temperature of 35 ºC, and aerated daily for 10 minutes. The evaluation of the ligninolytic activity was carried out periodically by measuring the amounts of lignin, cellulose and reducing sugars remaining, as well as the enzyme activity during 30 days of incubation. The two fungi showed activity of lignin peroxidase and manganese peroxidase. The percentages degradation of lignin were: 16 % with the fungus Cladosporium sp., 5 % with Fusarium sp., and 6 % with the model fungus.
Key words: insoluble fiber, solid state fermentation, lignin, enzyme activity.
