DETERMINACIÓN DE SUSTANCIAS HÚMICAS EN LIXIVIADOS DE VERTEDEROS DE RESIDUOS SÓLIDOS URBANOS
Abstract
The leachates from municipal solid waste landfill, in Calle 100 (Havana), that are discharged in Almendares River, impose to this body of water an organic not biodegradable load of around 100 t per year, which could be constituted by humic substances (HS) of high molecular weight. The aim of this present work was to deepen in the study of the dissolved organic matter (DOM) contained in thoseleachates, fundamentally the HS (humic acids + fulvic acids), to monitoring its content in raw leachates and in the effluents of treatment processes like anaerobic digestion and ozonization. The application of an outline of separation of the HS using Amberlita XAD-7, demonstrated the important content of these high molecular weight compounds. The estimation of different absorbance relationships allowed to demonstrate the possibility of monitoring, in a simple and quick way, the treatment processes applied, offering a valuable information for their optimization, until achieving a safe discharge to the environment.
Key words: humic substances, leachates, Amberlite XAD-7, absorbances relationships, monitoring.
