Abstract

Anaerobic fermentation by microorganisms is a promising method for the production of hydrogen. In this paper we will performed a series of tests to investigate the effect of pH, hydraulic retention time (HRT) and volumetric organic loading in the production rate and yield of hydrogen using a UASB reactor. Also establish the relevance of the metabolic pathway of ethanol for hydrogen production. Molasses are used as the substrate. First, experiments have conducted in mode batch to determine the effect of operating parameters, and then the results will be scaled to a continuous reactor.
Keywords: bio-hydrogen production, anaerobic fermentation, molasses.
