Extraction Condition Evaluation of Pinus caribaea Morelet var. caribaea Essential Oil Foliage (Dry Drug) by Hydrodistillation-Cohobation
Abstract
The selection of the extraction conditions by hydrodistillation (cohobation) of Pinus caribaeaMorelet var. caribaea(dry drug) foliage was the focus of this study. Particle size (Mesh light 1,25; 0,6; 0,25; 0,18 mm); drug-water relation (proportion 1:7, 1:12, 1:6 g/mL) and extraction time (30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270, 300, 330 y 360 min) were modulated, whereas essential oil yield (%) was considered as the response variable. The results express how the diminution of the particle size and the increment of the extraction time, increase the essential oil yield in a significant way (p value < 0,05), meanwhile drug-water relation do nothas influence on the extractive process. The maximum performance obtained among the experiments accomplished rise the 1,4 % of essential oil yield when using 0,18 mm of particle size and extraction times equal or higher than 270 minutes.
Keywords: essential oil, Pinus caribaeaMorelet, medicinal plant, particle size, extraction time.
