Development of a Procedure for the Extraction of β-Carotene and Glycerol from the Microalga Dunaliella Sp.at Las Cumaraguas Saltworks
Abstract
The purpose of this research is to develop a process for the extraction of β-carotene and glycerol from the Dunaliella sp.microalga at Las Cumaraguas saltworks, in order to apply technologies aimed to generate a product with pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics purposes sustained with microalgae cultivation. To achieve the extraction of these components some phases are established: Establish physicochemical conditions of growth of the Dunaliella sp. microalga. Assess the kinetic of production reaction of β-carotene and glycerol from the Dunaliella sp. microalga. Establish technological flow of the process and evaluate the economical feasibility from the technological scheme aimed. The literature review allowed to establish the extraction methods and characterization of the samples was performed by chromatographic techniques which allowed to identify the presence of β-carotene, obtaining a 45,18 % yield percentage. Keywords: extraction, β-carotene, glycerol, Dunaliella sp., technologies.
