Assessment of Environmental Quality based on Physicochemical Indicators of Water Bay Jiguey
Abstract
Jigüey Bay, located in the Sabana-Camagüey Archipelago, NE of Cuba, was sampled in December 2010 and September 2011, with the aim of assessing the environmental quality of water from physicochemical indicators (temperature, salinity, pH, chemical oxygen demand(COD), dissolved oxygen (DO), nitrite NOx, ammonia, inorganic nitrogen (NI), total nitrogen (NT), inorganic phosphorus (IP), and total phosphorus (TP), and in turn the causes that favor pollution. bay waters are classified as contaminated by organic matter and poor quality, high concentrations of COD and nutrients.
Keywords: salinity, organic matter, nutrients.
