Dye and organic matter removal performance in a subsurface wetland. Effect of soil as substrate
Keywords:

In the present research, the removal kinetics of two dyes and organic matter were evaluated in an experimental subsurface wetland of 0,15 m2 of surface area, planted with the Cyperus Alternifolius plant and with brown soil with carbonate and gravel as substrate. The kinetic study showed a decrease of pollutants in the wetland effluent from the first minutes of contact, adjusting the removal of organic matter to the saturation or Monod kinetic model. Pollutant removal efficiencies of more than 70 % were obtained. The effect of the substrate on the removal of the dyes was also evaluated, obtaining the kinetic and thermodynamic models. A better fit to the pseudo-second order kinetic model was obtained for both dyes, observing a maximum adsorption capacity (0,01-0,58 g/kg) lower than other adsorbents evaluated. A good fit to both the Freundlich and Lagmuir models was obtained.
