Abstract

Spondias mombin L.is a tropical tree, it is known as Job or plum tree, it is used to treat discomforts of the alimentary canal, bilious and marsh fever, also against dermatology infections and as an antimicrobial agent. In this paper it was determined the phytochemical composition of the aquous, ethanolic, and etherous extracts from the leaves, the bark of the steam and the roots of this plant. Samples were collected from "El Caney" in Santiago de Cuba, and they were identified in BIOECO’S Laboratory (Oriental Center of Ecosystems and Biodiversity). Fresh samples were grinded by hand and for 50 grams of each part of the plant it was added 150 mL of solvent water, ethanol-water (70-30 %) and ether for 48 hours of maceration treatment. Different family of compounds were determined according with the Methodological Guide for the Investigation in Medicinal Plants, and similar composition between the bark of the root and the leaves ofSpondias mombinL., they are rich in tannins, phenols, saponines,
coumarines, flavonoids and reducing sugars. The results obtained contribute to give a scientific explanation of the traditional use of this specie.
