DESIGN AND CHARACTERIZATION OF ANTIOXIDANT TINCTURES FROM Morus alba LINN (MULBERRY) LEAVES
Keywords:
Morus alba; tinturas; diseño experimental; fenoles totales; actividad antioxidanteAbstract
In order to establish the most favorable parameters for the preparation of 20 % Morus alba L. leaf
tinctures with antioxidant activity, a Taguchi experimental design with L16 orthogonal
arrangement was used and the results were examined using an analysis of variance. The selected
tested conditions were: dry drug of the Doña Betty or Acorazonada varieties, either, 70 % ethanol
as menstruum and the maceration method. The quality of the tinctures was evaluated through
organoleptic, chemical-physical and chemical parameters. An abundance of terpenic, phenolic and
alkaloid compounds was detected in the phytochemical composition, with the tincture of the
Acorazonada variety showing the highest value of total phenol content. All tinctures showed
reducing and antiradical activity, which, together with the content of total phenols found, underlies
the antioxidant activity and its nutraceutical potential.
